SPOKANE, WASH. (MAY 16, 2017): Anna Astrom graduated from Gonzaga University on Sunday, May 14, 2017 with a double major in Communication Studies and Psychology. She was seeking an internship during her final year at Gonzaga University and was directed toward us. Anna assisted in the office with various marketing, social media and administrative tasks. She is a responsible, upbeat individual and we greatly enjoyed having her assist on our team. We want to give a warm congratulations to Anna for being offered and accepting a full-time position at NAI Puget Sound in Seattle, Washington as an administrative assistant. Before her departure, we sat down with Anna and talked about Gonzaga, Spokane and NAI Black – here are a few of her thoughts.
NAI BLACK: What is the most valuable thing you have learned at NAI Black?The most valuable thing I have learned at NAI Black by far is the value of making and maintaining business relationships. Every broker has such unique ways of making their business work for them, but above all else, I admire the connection they have to the Spokane community through their business relationships. They are always finding new ways to make connections and reach people. It is inspiring and motivating. I have also seen the value in being creative or trying something new as a means to grow business. The first thing I was told when I was hired as an intern was “You’ll never do the same thing twice.” This has been abundantly true. Commercial Real Estate is unique in that way; even when a deal may be similar to one before, there are always new strategies you can apply to it to grow your business. It’s very exciting!
I am a double-major in Communication Studies and Psychology. I believe that I have been able to apply my majors in many different ways here at NAI Black. My Communications Major has given me the tools I need to stay organized when communicating with brokers. I have used my skills in communication to effectively research current listings and compile reports, review and edit the 2017 Market Report, assist brokers with reaching out to possible tenants or other business contacts, and designing marketing flyers and mailers. One especially interesting project I worked on involved doing a great deal of research on the number of listings we have in the Greater Spokane area. These numbers were not especially easy to find, so I used my skills in research and communication to work with CBA to get the right information and compile it into an infographic for our Annual Breakfast. The combination of my Communication Studies and Psychology majors has given me a deeper understanding of people; how they work and think and react, which is especially important in maintaining business relationships. My education at Gonzaga has given me the necessary skills to think critically about situations in order to effectively problem solve. My internship here at NAI Black has been an amazing addition to my education.
What is your favorite building in Spokane?
My favorite building in Spokane is the Old National Bank Building (current US Bank Building) on Riverside downtown. I love its style. I wish they still built office buildings with intricate exteriors like that. It was also the first skyscraper in Spokane!
